But my biggest concern \u2013prior to, and now after extensive use\u2013 is how awkward it is to invoke the <strong>Control Centre<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Obviously the traditional <em>swipe up from the bottom<\/em> gesture has been replaced to allow navigation to the Home Screen &amp; App Switcher. Moving the Control Centre gesture so far away from reach makes for a compromised user experience for such a critical feature.<\/p>\n<p>One handed access to the Control Centre is now only possible using <em>Reachability.<\/em>\u00a0While useful in essence, it&#8217;s incredibly unintuitive for this purpose \u2013and crucially\u2013 often a hit and miss affair, quite literally. Nb. <em>Reachability<\/em>\u00a0isn&#8217;t an option while on the unlock screen.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"blockgrid small-block-grid-3 medium-block-grid-3 large-block-grid-3 \">\n<li>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.4muladesign.com\/clients\/jb\/assets\/uploads\/2017\/11\/iPhoneX_Control-Centre-UI.jpg\" alt=\"iOS Control Centre\" width=\"500\" height=\"500\" \/><figcaption>iOS Control Centre<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.4muladesign.com\/clients\/jb\/assets\/uploads\/2017\/11\/iPhoneX_Control-Centre-3D-Touch.jpg\" alt=\"3D Touch\" width=\"500\" height=\"500\" \/><figcaption>3D Touch<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.4muladesign.com\/clients\/jb\/assets\/uploads\/2017\/11\/iPhoneX_Control-Centre-Bottom-Edge.jpg\" alt=\"iPhone X \u2013\u00a0Bottom Edge Bar\" width=\"500\" height=\"500\" \/><figcaption>Bottom Edge Bar<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Accessing the Home Screen and App Switcher is great on the iPhone X. So much easier and more fluid than using a physical Home button.<\/p>\n<p>The Control Centre is something I use so often, this is becoming a real issue for my overall satisfaction with the device. There needs to be a better solution&#8230;<\/p>\n<h2>A suggested solution<\/h2>\n<p>I&#8217;d suggest offering an optional setting to allow a <em>3D Touch<\/em>\u00a0press on the bottom edge bar to invoke the <strong>Control Centre\u00a0<\/strong>rapidly.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the critical gestures, the bottom edge bar also allows switching open apps by swiping left \/ right. This is a smart new UI feature on the iPhone X.<\/p>\n<p>Invoking the Control Centre by swiping from the <em>top right<\/em> of the screen is a compromise too far. Adding\u00a0a 3D Touch\u00a0gesture to the mix would work extremely well, adding to the useful functionality of the bottom edge bar.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve suggested this to <strong>Apple<\/strong> via their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.apple.com\/feedback\/iphone.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">feedback form<\/a> today and really hope they&#8217;ll consider it.<\/p>\n<p>Do you agree?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"One handed access to the Control Centre is now only possible using Reachability.
